This engraving by J.R.Ashton is from "The Picturesque Atlas of Australasia" published in Australia in 1889. The view is westwards down Worcester Street with the Canterbury Museum at the end of the street. The High School (present-day Christchurch Boys High School on a different site) on the left became part of Canterbury University. When the University moved from the centre of the city, the site became the Arts Centre. The buildiings were badly damaged during the 2011 earthquakes, but are being repaired, renovated and strengthened. (2016)
